LPGA Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam shot a 4-under 68 on Sunday to win the U.S. Senior Women's Open by eight strokes at Fairfield, Conn.

The 50-year-old Sorenstam finished with a 12-under 276 at Brooklawn Country Club. She recorded five birdies and one bogey during the final round.

Sorenstam retired from the LPGA tour in 2008 with 72 victories, including 10 majors. Winning the U.S. Senior Women's Open earns her an exemption to the 2022 U.S. Women's Open at Pine Needles in North Carolina -- the site of her 1996 U.S. Women's Open title.

"It's really a dream come true," Sorenstam said of the victory. "I worked hard for this championship. When I turned 50, I said, 'I'm gonna play.'

"Coming back from 13 years was not easy."

Fellow Swede Liselotte Neumann finished second after a final-round 74. England's Laura Davies (71 on Sunday) was third at 3-under 285 while Japan's Yuko Saito (72) and Scotland's Catriona Matthew (74) tied for fourth at 2 under.
