U.S. dollar retreats after prior session's surge

NEW YORK, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Tuesday, giving up some of the strong gains from the prior session, amid an improvement in risk appetite.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, dipped 0.57 percent to 107.2230, following a 0.85 percent jump in the previous day.

In late New York trading on Tuesday, the euro rose to 1.0299 U.S. dollars from 1.0243 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.1884 U.S. dollars from 1.1815 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 141.21 Japanese yen, lower than 142.13 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.9523 Swiss francs from 0.9592 Swiss francs, and it was down to 1.3383 Canadian dollars from 1.3446 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar fell to 10.6440 Swedish Kronor from 10.7110 Swedish Kronor.

Investors are awaiting the Federal Reserve's latest meeting minutes on Wednesday to look for clues on the central bank's future rate course.
